Shoot, Aim, and Fire

*Chicago Illinois Spring 2017*

4:30 a.m. My phone started ringing. I groaned at the sound of my ringtone going off, because I knew it was a call from my job.

"Hello." I answered rubbing my eyes to try and wake up.

"Hello. Can you bring Onyx to 123 Main Street. I'll tell you the details when you arrive on scene." Hank Voight said in the phone.

"Yeah, I'll be there as fast as I can." I got up from my bed and put on my light blue Chicago police officer uniform, my utility belt, my radio, and finally my black boots. I went downstairs and Onyx was in his cage knowing I was heading to work. I opened the cage and told him to head into the squad car.

Five minutes later I arrived on scene. There was an apartment engulfed in flames. Squad 3, Truck, and Ambo 66 were all on scene along with my department.

"What do we got?" I asked Hank.

"We got a possible death investigation. The witness from the apartment stated he heard some disturbance going on from upstairs. He called us, but when we arrived on scene the whole apartment structure was on fire. Can you take Onyx and see if he can search out any out of the ordinary scents." Hank stated.

"I'll see what Onyx can do. It's a little hard because I do not have any sorta clothing available from him to sniff a scent, but we'll try." I said heading to my car to grab Onyx. I commanded Onyx to start searching the surrounding area of the apartment. We went from the front porch to the East side of the complex. Onyx started to pick up the pace a little bit to the back of the apartment when he stopped and sat. He alerted me that there was a piece of evidence hidden in the grass. I put on my gloves and picked up the piece of cloth.

"Good boy." I told Onyx while he wagged his tail. I then let him sniff the piece of cloth and then I put it in a evidence bag. Onyx started moving North where there was a little bike path. I think he caught a scent of what could possibly be a potential suspect. We headed down the bike path to a little bridge where Onyx started barking. I heard yelling from the bush. In the bush was a man who had a torn shirt and had some blood dripping from his head. I radioed the team over where the bike path is.

"I think we might have caught someone that might be of interests." I radioed them as I put the handcuffs on this man. The team was walking over to us.

"Good job Onyx." Jay Halsted said petting him on the head. "Now, let's bring this guy into custody."

We headed back to the apartment, so we could head to District 21 to interview the unidentified man. As, I was heading to my squad car I accidentally ran into a firefighter.

"I am so sorry. Onyx can be a fast dog." I replied.

"No sweat." the firefighter said. "Did Onyx catch anything?"

"Yeah, he got someone that could possibly be related to this crime"

"Good. Well, I'll probably see you around with Mr. Onyx." the firefighter said patting his head.

"I'm sure." I said smiling while walking to my car.

*10:30 a.m. District 21 Chicago, Illinois. *

I walked in with Onyx and Trudy called my name.

"Good job today on busting the man who caused the fire in the apartment and bringing justice to the family of the murdered victim." Trudy said.

"Thanks Trudy, but you should be thanking this fellow." Onyx just wagged his tail.

"Yes, I should be thanking Mr. Onyx." She said looking at him. "Any way, you have detail with Kim Burgess this morning, so you guys will be patrolling around the area." Trudy said.

"Okay, boss." I said.

I walked outside the building. Kim Burgess was sitting on the stoop probably waiting for me.

"Hey Sarah and Onyx." Kim said smiling.

"Hey Kim. You ready to kick some ass on the streets." I said laughing. Kim and I are usually the typical beat cops who work the streets together. I do not mind at all, because I really appreciate her as a police officer. She goes by the books and plus she reminds me of myself.

"Hell yeah." Kim said pounding our fists together.

We both got in our squad cars and drove to the Lake Shore Drive area to patrol. A good place I started at was Navy Pier in Chicago. A lot of tourists and a lot of people in a mile stretch of land. We parked our cars and decided to do foot patrol with Onyx. Onyx is a dual-use dog, because he can track people and search out narcotics.

"So, how was that bust with the intelligence unit earlier?" Kim asked.

Hank Voight is the head guy for the intelligence unit, and he'll call me in every once in a while because I'm the only Chicago Police Officer in District 21 who has a dog. Otherwise, I'm just your typical cop.

"It was a rather fast search to be honest. Hank wanted Onyx to search for the individual who murdered someone and lit the apartment on fire to cover his tracks of the murder. Onyx and I were searching the side of the house when he got a whiff of something. It happened to be a small piece of clothing in the grass. I let him sniff it and he showed me to where the man was hiding under a bike bridge." I said.

"Damn, that is pretty cool. I'm glad they found out who did that crime. I hope someday I'll be able to be part of the intelligence unit upstairs."

"I'm sure you'll get your chance. You're a very great cop and very good at your job." I said.

"Thanks Sarah." Kim said smiling.

"You're welcome. Question, would you like to join myself and couple other of my friends up at Molly's tonight?"

"Yeah, I would like that very much. I don't get out too much. I'm usually at Atwater's house with his daughter." Kim said.

"Girl, get out more often. You're more than welcome to come join me to things if you want. All you have to do is hit me up." I said as Onyx started to sniff something out. "Kim, he is onto something."

Onyx must've gotten a whiff of narcos because he was definitely on a lead at this point. We where almost to the end of the pier where the boats stop docking. The last boat Onyx lead us to. He started barking at a women holding a box in her hands heading up on the boats bridge.

"Stay where you are!" Kim yelled pulling her gun out.

The women dropped the box and out poured a couple kilos of a white powdery substance probably cocaine.

"Kneel onto the ground." I said.

The women knelled onto the ground and put her hands up. Kim put the hand cuffs on her.

"So, what are you doing with all that drugs?" I asked.

"I'm not talking. I need a lawyer." The women said.

"You'll get your lawyer when you head to our department." Kim said. "You have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions. Anything you say may be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to attorney, and if not one will be appointed to you. Do you understand your rights?"

"I understand my rights." The women stated.

Kim went to bring the women to her squad car and bring her back to the precinct. I bagged the evidence and then took the evidence and Onyx to the squad car.

"Well, looks like I'm going to spend my time writing up reports for the crimes that have happened today. While you sit back and just live a lazy dog life in the back of the squad car. Lucky dog you." I said laughing and kissing Onyx on the head.

*7 p.m. Mollys*

"I need a drink!" I yelled walking up to Hermann at the bar.

"Rough day?" Hermann asked.

"Rough and long. Onyx caught two bad guy today, so I guess something was good." I said.

"He's a great dog. We need more of him around here. So, what would you like to drink tonight?"

"I'll take a Guinness." I said while taking a seat at the bar.

"A Guinness it is. Coming right up."

Jamila, Kat, and Ashley walked in.

"Heeyyyy." Jam said walking up to take a seat next to me. "How was your day?" Jam asked.

"Long. I had responded to a couple of calls today. A lot of paperwork and report writing I had to do" I said.

"At least your doing something good for the city of Chicago." Kat said laughing.

"True. So, how's life with that uhhh that Patrick guy?" I asked.

"Wait, did Jamila tell you I started dating a guy?" Kat asked getting all big eyed.

"She just said you were butt buddies." I said laughing as Jam spit her drink out.

"I did not say that!" Jam said laughing.

"I hate you guys." Kat said. "You guy know who Patrick is!"

"Do we know? You like to hide stuff on us." Ashley said.

"He plays for the Chicago Blackhawks." Kat said groaning.

"Wait, you mean the Patrick Kane from the Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Kane?" I asked all confused.

"Yes ma'am." Kat said.

"Get out!" Ashley said.

"How the hell did you manage that?" Jam asked.

"Actually, I went to a Hawks game and got hit in the head with the glass by Kane, because he actually went to be physical and yeah the glass just kinda fell. He felt bad, so he let me come get an autographed stick and a tour of the locker room. We hit it up after that." Kat said.

"Well I'll be damned." Ashley said.

"Does that mean we'll get some playoff tickets for free?" I asked.

"I'm not sure yet." Kat said.

"Tell him to hook your sisters up, because I want to go to a playoff game." Jam said.

"Yeah, I want to see Jonathan Toews Butt!" Ashley said.

"Why is he not here right now?" Jam asked.

"We're currently keeping it on the down low, because you guys know crazy puck bunnies." Kat said.

"You guys got to come out sooner than later, because fans get crazy." Ashley said.

"We'll see." Kat said as she put down her Margarita.

Matt finally came in.

"I need a beer ASAP!" Matt said.

"What got into you?" I asked all curious.

"Long day. Coach Sutter is training us like we're training for the god damn Olympics." Matt said. Matt is currently training with the Rockford Icehogs, the affiliated team to the Chicago Blackhawks. He hopes to eventually make it to the NHL one day.

"Well, he'll shape you into a great hockey player then." Jam said.

"I sure hope so." Matt said. "So, what did I hear about Kat and Patrick Kane?"

"Damn! Does everyone that is involved with hockey know?" Kat said groaning.

"Don't be ashamed if he makes you happy then he makes you happy. Don't worry about those haters." Matt said.

"See, I like how deep this man is." Ashley said.

"See, Kat you should just let the cat out of the bag." I said.

The door opened at Molly's and in came all of Firehouse 51. Damn, there's a lot of them I thought to myself. The firefighter that I ran into earlier by accident came and sat a few rows down from where we were sitting. He is pretty good looking. Sarah, stop thinking like this it is the alcohol talking.

"Sarah, why you eye balling that firefighter?" Jam asked.

"Oh Onyx and I ran into him earlier on a call." I said taking a sip of my Guinness.

"He's pretty good looking." Ashley stated.

"I know you are checking him out Missy." Kat said. "Go up there and talk to him!"

"No, I don't want to." I said rolling my eyes.

"I'm going to go over there and get him for you." Jam, said.

"NO!" I said as I raised my voice.

"Simmer down. I was only kidding with you." Jam said.

"You sure?" I asked narrowing my eyes at Jam.

"Yeah, you right, I was totally going to go over there and get him for you." Jam said.

"I'm just going to walk over there myself, so I don't have to hear you three talking about it." I said getting up and walking over to this fire man whom I know nothing about.

"Hey, want to buy a girl a drink." I said sitting next to this fireman.

"Yeah, sure. What are you drinking?" He asked.

"A Guinness." I said.

"A girl who likes beer. I like that." He said laughing calling over Otis.

"Yes, I like my beer like I like my men." Oh god why am I so cheesy? I thought to myself while chuckling.

"Yeah? So, what is your name?" The man asked.

"Tell me your name first and I'll tell you mine." I said winking.

"Kelly, Kelly Severide." Kelly said.

"I'm Sarah Montgomery." I said shaking Kelly's hand.

"Nice to meet you. Well, formally meet."

"It's nice meeting you too. What is weird though is I know most of the Firehouse 51 guys. Why have I never heard of you?" I asked.

"I don't go out too often. Some of the guys at Firehouse 51 like to be adventures."

"Understandable. Some people are like that too at my precinct." I said.

"So, Onyx is your sidekick?"

"Yes, I've had him about two years now. I love him so much." I said smiling.

"I'll have to meet him sometime." Kelly said smiling.

"You definitely will." I said.

Kim walked into Molly's finally.

"OW OW!" Kim yelled. She probably did that because Kelly and I were making out.

"Can you be anymore louder?" I stopped doing what I was doing to talk to Kim.

"Yes." She said blushing. "So, who is this silver fox?" Kim asked.

"Kelly Severide from Firehouse 51." I said.

"Ohhhh a fire man." Kim said winking.

Oh Kim. I love her so much.

"Why don't you go get yourself a drink. Drinks on me this round." I said handing Kim some money.

"Thank you." She said walking away to get some drinks because the bar was extremely crowded now.

"So, who is Kim?" Severide asked.

"She is basically my other partner. We work the beat together. She is like my other half." I said.

"Oh, that is pretty cool. We need more female police out there."

"You're probably saying that to make me happy." I said laughing.

"No, I honestly think it." Severide said as Kim came with a couple of drinks and shots.

"Shots? Really?" I asked.

"Hell yeah!" Kim said excitedly.

"Well, cheers everyone." Severide said.

We all cheered for the night to be a good one.

That guy named DeAngelo

I felt a tapping on my shoulder and some yelling. "SARAH! WAKE UP! YOU'RE SLEEPING ON THE JOB!" Trudy said yelling. "...
